CALL TODAY!! 1-855-5-STREAK (1-855-578-7325) What are those Black Streak on my roof?
I've heard people say that the black streaks on the roof were caused by anything from tree sap, shingle tar to plywood glue comeing up thru the shingles. Roof Algae commonly known as Gloeocapse Magma, is a type of algae that thrives in humid and warm climates and usally appear on the north slope of the roof where shade is prevalent and moisture tends to accumalate. The results?? Ugly Black Streaks!! Are these black streaks harmful? Roof algae becomes attached to the shingles and feeds on the organic matters that are on the roof and the limestone used in shingle making fuels the growth. As the fungus grows it breaks down the shingle and the granules protecting the surface of the shingle is loosened and falls off. This leads to premature deterioration of the shigle and diminshes the roofs ability to reflect the heat from the sun. Moss on roof? Roof moss is very dangerous because it can grow underneath the shingle and act like a sponge, soaking up water after each rain and holding it there causing more mold to to grow, and eventally the moss will cause the roof to start leaking.
