What are those Black Streaks on my roof?

     I've heard people say that the black streaks on the roof were caused by anything from tree sap, shingle tar to plywood glue coming up thru the shingles.
Truth is most of the streaks are just mold growing on your roof!!

   Roof Algae commonly known as Gloeocapse Magma, is a type of algae that thrives in   humid and warm climates and usually appear on the north slope of the roof where shade is prevalent and moisture tends to accumulate. The results?? Ugly Black Streaks!!

Are these black streaks harmful?

    Roof algae becomes attached to the shingles and feeds on the organic matters that are on the roof and the limestone used by shingle manufacturers also fuels the growth of these black streaks.
